PUT A NAME TO A FACE

The pastors, staff and leadership here at Ashland First United Methodist Church are folks who love, care and pray for every single person in the church. If you have any questions for one of our pastors or any of our staff, feel free to reach out and email them or call our church office to speak with them. • REV. RICHENDA FAIRHURST

Rev. Richenda was born in Heswall, England, baptized Anglican, and confirmed as a teenager Congregationalist (now UCC). Like many, she left the church for a while, grappling with the big questions that are so hard to answer. When she returned to church, she did so amid the discovery of the Wesleyan idea of Grace, Grace as an unending type of Love that holds you as beloved from your very beginning.

Rev. Richenda attended seminary at the Northwest House of Theological Study in Salem, Oregon, from there transferring to Drew Theological School in Madison, New Jersey. She is an Ordained Elder in the Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Methodist Church. She credits seminary with not just the academic work of scripture and study, but the deep inner work of waking to the injustices of the world. This is God's world where in all are called Beloved. As people of faith, we are strengthened by that faith to speak for our neighbor and our planet, as well as for the hope and promise of a just and peaceful world.

Rev. Richenda has lived in England, Canada, Arizona, California, and Washington State. She has previously served at Grays River UMC and Camas UMC. She is married to her partner of 30 years, Jon Fairhurst. They have raised three children and are expecting their very first grandchild at the end of July.

"I love the work of church revitalization and renewal.  To me, revitalization work is deeply linked to discovering and sharing deep gratitude for the love and blessing of God. This is our beautiful planet and God calls us close to care for each other and our world.  In engaging the work of peace and faithfulness as a people of God, we contribute to the building of good community, and realize the blessings of our very, very good world."
